Redwood Road
This $73.5 million dollar, ten mile highway project was chosen for the design-build process to accelerate the construction of this single lane road that now carries 16,000 vehicles per day due to the rapid growth in this once rural area. This newly completed road is much safer and has alleviated significant congestion for these communities that depend on this road as their primary access to the Salt Lake Valley. The major items of work on this project included project design, acquisition of 220 right-of-way parcels, widening the existing road to two lanes in each direction, adding a center turn lane, bike lanes, 2,000,000 square feet of full-depth reclamation of the existing pavement, 55,000 feet of storm drain, 570,000 tons of imported aggregates, 220,000 tons of asphalt, 3 wild life crossings, 6 box culverts, 5 signalized intersections, and coordinating the work of 14 separate utility companies. At its peak there were nearly 200 workers on the job.
