Lauren Eifert, a soon-to-be full-time Field Engineer at Geneva Rock, is making waves even before officially starting her career. Lauren, who graduates from Brigham Young University this month, recently helped lead her school’s engineering team to victory at the regional Concrete Canoe competition.

The Concrete Canoe competition challenges students to design, build and race a full-scale canoe made entirely of concrete. Lauren and her teammates spent nearly the entire school year perfecting their design. “We designed our own lightweight concrete mix and created the entire 19-foot canoe,” Lauren explained.

Their canoe, named “Valhalla,” was styled with a striking Viking theme. “We stained our canoe to look like wood and even carved out circular inlays filled with white concrete to resemble Viking shields,” Lauren shared. “That was a huge part of why we scored so well.”

The team’s ingenuity and attention to detail secured them first place against eight other teams at regionals, earning them a spot at nationals. The national competition, held in San Luis Obispo from June 27-29, will pit Lauren’s team against more than 20 top schools from across the United States and abroad.

Lauren, who is also a past recipient of a Geneva Rock scholarship, will begin her full-time role working on the Provo Airport expansion immediately after graduation. She’s excited about joining the Geneva Rock team permanently. “I love our team and working with them. I felt supported as a student, and I know Geneva Rock is a company where I’ll have the opportunity to grow,” Lauren said.

Congratulations, Lauren—we’re excited to have you onboard and wish your team the best at nationals!
