For the aggregates industry to be most financially and environmentally friendly, it must be strongly tied to local communities.
Transportation is a large cost in the sale of aggregates. Costs sharply increase the farther trucks are from critical infrastructure materials.
Increased shipping costs would impact housing and construction costs, as well as taxes and utilities prices. Cities would have to pay more to build and maintain infrastructure, or settle for deteriorating roads and pot holes.
