For the aggregates industry to be most financially and environmentally friendly, it must be strongly tied to local communities.
Transportation is a large cost in the sale of aggregates. Costs sharply increase the farther trucks are from critical infrastructure materials.
Increased shipping costs would impact housing and construction costs, as well as taxes and utilities prices. Cities would have to pay more to build and maintain infrastructure, or settle for deteriorating roads and pot holes.

The deposits available are more expensive to extract and need significant processing. Some aggregate material doesn’t meet the quality standards for modern-day home and road construction.

In the past 5 years, Geneva Rock has invested over $30 million in eco-friendly operational upgrades including:
- Installation of a filter press to create a zero-waste water recycling facility
- Purchase of a fleet of CNG concrete mixer trucks and filling station
- Construction of a downhill conveyor that generates power and reduces truck traffic
- Implementation of dust suppression system that utilizes sprinklers and water cannons
