Geneva Rock crews have completed the 4100 South – Relief Sewer Project in Taylorsville, as commissioned by the project owner, Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District.

Work on the project included installation of 2,600 LF of SDR-35 PVC sewer pipe down the center of 4100 South in Taylorsville, Utah. Pipe sizes varied from 12” to 36” with excavation depths up to 19’ deep.  Sewer bypass pumping was required on a 33” transfer line with peak flow rates greater than 4,700 gallons per minute. Ground water was encountered throughout most of the project, and dewatering pumps had to run off and on to keep the trench free of water.

The project started on the east side of the Redwood Road intersection with 36” SDR-26 PVC pipe along with a 72” Manhole and a 60” Manhole. Due to tight deadlines enforced in the UDOT right-of-way (Redwood Road) crews were required to work around the clock starting Friday evening at 9:00 PM and working continuously for 60 Hours.

During the operation in the Redwood Road intersection, bypass pumping was required. Because this was a 33” transfer line, with peak flow rates exceeding 4,700 gallons per minute, changes were presented. Four pumps were needed to accomplish the pumping, one 12” pump, two 8” pumps, and one 6” pump. All of these pumps fed an 18” HDPE pipe that was just over 1,600 LF to a manhole downstream.

The project was completed ahead of schedule.
