Geneva Rock recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of the West Desert Airpark in Fairfield, Utah, a unique project that brought a new, expansive runway to this airfield for the first time.
“It’s great to be celebrating the ribbon cutting for the new runway at West Desert Airpark,” said Travis Tholstrom, Geneva Rock’s Area Manager of Construction South. “We faced challenges along the way, but working with UDOT and the project owners, we were able to complete the scope at the price they needed. It’s really rewarding to be part of a project that gives back to a small community like this.”
The newly constructed runway stretches 6,200 feet long and 60 feet wide, with two taxiways connecting to the original runway. To complete the project, the Geneva Rock team excavated 11,700 cubic yards of dirt, imported 37,166 square yards each of E-fill and road base and laid down 6,300 tons of asphalt.
Throughout the summer, Geneva Rock’s team tackled rigorous dust control and material compaction by using up to 75,000 gallons of water every day.
Congratulations to the entire Geneva Rock team on the success of this project!
