Geneva Rock recently brought more than 700 team members and their families together for a series of Truck Rodeo events celebrating the skill it takes to operate a mixer truck safely. Hosted by the Geneva Rock ready-mix division, the events were held at our 3900 S, Ogden and Payson plants so drivers across the company could take part.
The Truck Rodeo gave participants a chance to show what they know in a setting that felt familiar to the work they do every day. Drivers moved through obstacle courses, showed control while backing and turning and maneuvered their chute without damaging an egg. It was a fun challenge, but it also showed how much focus the job requires.
The competition brought plenty of energy to each location. Families spent time together, kids had activities of their own and everyone had a chance to enjoy lunch, swag and prize drawings.
“Our team was so excited for the opportunity to spend time with family and friends and share a little of what we do, day in and day out,” said Franklin Aragundi, manager of delivery and customer service at Geneva Rock’s Park City Plant.
For Geneva Rock, the Truck Rodeo was a good reminder of the judgment required to operate heavy vehicles safely. Drivers have to stay aware on busy roads, tight job sites and active plant locations. Events like this give team members a chance to learn from each other while reinforcing the habits that help keep people safe.
Event coordinators and leadership considered the Truck Rodeos a success, and there is already discussion about making them a yearly tradition. Other divisions are also looking at ways they could join in with events of their own.
More than anything, the Truck Rodeo gave families a closer look at the work Geneva Rock drivers do each day and highlighted the pride those drivers take in doing it well.
