Geneva Rock Products is celebrating our 60th anniversary in 2014! We’d like to thank our customers, partners, employees and the community for making this a possibility. We’re proud to be a top supplier of ready mixed concrete, sand and gravel, asphalt, and construction services along the Wasatch front.
How Geneva Rock Products Came to Be
Geneva Rock Products, Inc. got its start in the midst of the postwar economic boom when W.W. Clyde & Co. (now our sister company) came away with a concrete batch plant after completing a joint venture with Jacobson Construction at Dugway Proving Grounds and Tooele Army Depot near Tooele, Utah.
Recognizing a need for ready-mix concrete services in Utah Valley, the Clyde family put their resources to work. With that batch plant and just four trucks installed with six-cubic-yard capacity Smith mixers, Geneva Rock Products, Inc. was organized with Wilford Woodruff Clyde as President, his brother Edward Clyde as Vice President and their cousin Alan Johnson as secretary-treasurer.
60 Years of Projects
The company’s first job was supplying concrete for the new pipe mill at Geneva Steel in 1954. Property adjacent to the steel plant was acquired and construction of our first batch plant began. Other early jobs included producing and delivering concrete for Provo and Orem high schools. A short list of jobs from our 60 years in business include materials and services for:
- Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School
- LDS Mission Training Center
- ZCMI Shopping Center
- University of Utah Marriott Library
- 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Facilities/Structures
- Joseph Smith Memorial Building Expansion
- Lavell Edwards Stadium Expansion
- University Mall
- University of Utah Behavior Science Building
- Rice Eccles Stadium Remodel
- Salt Lake International Airport Parking Structure
- Rio Tinto Stadium
- BYU Marriott Center
- City Creek
- Landscaping at Utah Valley University
- LDS Church Office Building
- Energy Solutions Arena
- Provo Rec Center
Its no surprise that Geneva Rock Products materials are found in buildings across the Wasatch Front. If you were to look from Temple Square south along West Temple street, most of the buildings you’ll see have been built with solid Geneva Rock concrete.
And, that’s just buildings. If you consider materials for streets and interstate infrastructure, we estimate that 50% of the roadways from Brigham City to Santaquin have been produced with Geneva Rock material.
Building a Better Community
Current Company President Jim Golding has made it his mission to continue to build upon these values to make Geneva Rock Products a company that is respected and appreciated by clients and our community for the next 60 years and beyond.
We wish to thank the many people, organizations and community members who have been our partners for the past six decades. We would not be here today if it wasn’t for you. Please join with us in celebrating 60 years of ready-mix concrete, asphalt, aggregate and construction services throughout the Wasatch Front.
