SMA paving on SR-68 at Electric Lake
Located in Emery and Carbon Counties, SR-264 is part of the Energy Loop. The basics of this rehabilitation project for Utah Department of Transportation include mill, scratch course and asphalt paving with both SMA and HMA.

 Project Details

The project consisted of 10,000 tons of 3/8″ HMA sourced from our Orem plant, 17,500 tons of SMA from our Morgan plant and 70,000 SY of rotomill. Additional work included 1,000 LF of remove and replace barrier along the Skyline Mine, signs and striping.

Approach

The subgrade of the project was compromised and created a water bed for us to pave on. We showed this to UDOT and gave recommendations of solutions to fix it. Like most projects, the budget was tight and we worked closely with the owner on densities, compaction, etc. to keep the project moving and not add any additional costs. We added a roller to help achieve compaction and delivered a great road under UDOT’s budget.
